10 First Date Tips

A first date can be exciting and full of anticipation. Don’t over-think what will happen on the date and what the outcome will be. Instead think of it as you’re meeting up with an old friend. This will not only make you feel more relaxed but it will put your date at ease.

Remember, dating is a journey- this date may be the one, but if not you’re one step closer to your Last-First date.

Here are Amare Exclusive’s 10 tips to make your first date a success. Some of these you may think are common sense but you’d be truly surprised at how over-looked some of the basics are.

1/ Plan ahead
To ensure you’re not late for your date, make sure you know exactly where the venue is and how long it is going to take you to get there.
Pick your outfit and accessories ahead of time to eliminate any last minute wardrobe malfunctions.

2/ Dress to Impress
When selecting what to wear it is important to dress appropriately for the occasion and activity/venue (however here at Amare we think that if you’re not sure, it’s better to be over-dressed than under-dressed).
Choose an outfit that not only makes you look amazing but makes you feel great, boosting your confidence.

3/ Decisive
If you are given options, select one promptly. “Umming & ahing” is not attractive and can show a lack of confidence.

4/ Present
Put your phone on silent, actively listen and ask questions. It’s always flattering when you ask your date questions about themselves and it conveys interest.

5/ Yourself
Relax and let your date see the real you. Don’t try to be someone you’re not, just to impress. The truth always comes out in the end and that is no way to start a potential relationship.

6/ Engaging
Whilst you’re talking to your date, make eye contact with them and smile – it shows you’re enjoying the conversation.

7/ Kind
Even if you’re not attracted to your date, be considerate, and treat your date as you would want to be treated. They may not be the one but it could be the start of a friendship.

8/ Remember your Manners
Bad table manners are a definite turn-off.
Be polite to waiting staff.  How you treat others, not just your date, says a lot about you.

9/ Don’t Drink too much
Enjoy yourself but know your limit. Slurring and being inappropriate is not impressive.
It might be an idea to drink a glass of water for every drink to pace yourself.

10/ Don’t be too quick to judge
Love isn’t always how you see it in the movies where people fall in love at first sight. The reality is that to truly know if there is potential in someone it can take a few more dates.
Sometimes people hide the diamond within!
